WHAT WOULD IT MEAN TO YOU?

What would it mean to you?

What would it mean to you?

Someone of a different shade,

That at times I am ashamed

Of the way that I was made?

Would you care at all?

If I were offended

By being clumped with all the whites

From who I have descended.

Would you even believe?

That your equality means something to me?

That the world has gotten so far

From where we should by now be?

What would it mean to you?

If you knew how much I cared,

About men and women everywhere,

How much we are all so scared?

What can I do for you?

Without causing offense,

To show you I am not like all of them,

I am not someone on the other side of the fence.

What does would it look like to you

A perfect, equal world?

Would everyone be treated the same?

Would the hatred between us come unfurled?

What would it mean to you?

To know we are all not the same,

That we are all different in our own,

No matter the families from which we came?

What would it mean to you?

To be a people undivided?

To drop the stereotypes

And finally become united?

How can we come together?

Let our minds and hearts become one

Instead of skin against skin

And hands on the gun?

What would it mean to you?

To know you’re not an outcast to all?

To know many of us stand with you

And we stand proud and tall?

It would mean the world to me

For people to accept each other.

I accept you and ask that you accept me,

And that we help one another.
